Ugandan Kids Choir

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—The Ugandan Kids Choir will perform in the Hill Recital Hall at Birmingham-Southern College on Monday, Jan. 15, at 7 p.m.

The event, which is free and open to the public, is sponsored by the college’s Department of Music in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Known throughout the world for their musical talents, the 10 children, who are between the ages of 8 and 12, will sing traditional African songs, dance in colorful costumes, and play authentic African instruments. The choir has been featured nationwide at churches, schools, at Disneyland, and on the steps of the White House.

The Ugandan Kids Choir is a ministry of Childcare Worldwide, which has been dedicated to empowering children in the developing world since 1981. Through child sponsorship, the nonprofit organization brings hope to children in need by providing them with an education that will set them up for future employment and break the cycle of poverty in their lives.

The event helps kick off BSC’s spring arts season and a year-long celebration of the 100-year anniversary of its existence in Birmingham. The college will offer special events for current students, alumni, and the broader community during 2018.
